On May 22nd, Sandvik launched the first 3D printed diamond composite at the RAPID+TCT show in the United States. It is understood that Sandvik uses stereolithography (SLA), and its additive manufacturing department has developed a slurry of diamond powder and polymer for 3D printed diamond composites. The material has been tested and maintained with the physical properties of diamond. It is worth noting that 3D printed diamond composites do not retain the luster of natural diamonds. After the SLA process, the Sandvik team used a special post-processing method to accurately generate the properties of the diamond composite. Mikael Schuisky, head of R&D and operations at Sandvik Additives Manufacturing, said, “This step is very complicated. However, after extensive research and development and many trials, we managed to control this process.†Anders Ohlsson, delivery manager at Sandvik Additives Manufacturing, said: "Historically, 3D printing in diamonds is not possible in our imagination. Even now, we are just beginning to break through this possibility and reach Related applications." Ohlsson added, "We started to wonder what is possible with 3D printing complex shapes. The material is three times harder than steel, the thermal conductivity is higher than copper, the thermal expansion is close to steel, and the density is close to aluminum. These advantages make us believe that from now on Within a few years, you will see diamond composites in aerospace, automotive and other applications."
