Recently, 3D printing has been innovated: two starters from the Nervous System design studio have teamed up to create a flowing plastic dress with 3D printing. The dress was created by the 4D printing system, Kinematics, and is now permanently collected by the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The goal of the grinding and polishing step is to prepare the final polished sample without deformation and suitable for analysis. This can be done in a number of ways depending on the overall objectives of the laboratory. Whether the lab is looking for the fastest overall process, the best surface finish or the versatility to prepare many different materials, Buehler can provide the solution for your grinding and polishing needs. Currently, 3D printed clothes cost $3,000 each, and it seems that they are not ready to commercialize them. People are beginning to get in touch with 3D printing - this kind of printing of flat objects into objects is really a week, and now when it comes to 3D printing, we might think of solid objects. However, this status quo has changed.
The Nervous System design studio creates a novel process that allows 3D printed apparel to move and rock like real fabric. And the custom software behind it is Kinematics, which combines origami techniques in a novel way with 3D printing, which in turn pushes the limits of the technology.
Unlike the form of sewing clothes into fabrics, Kinematics first forms a 3D model in the CAD program, and then splits the model into triangular segments of the checkerboard in various sizes. Designers can not only control the size, placement, and quantity of these triangular segments, but also preview how the changes made affect the event clothes. Once the designer is satisfied, the algorithm combines the triangle segments into a single unit and then compresses the design into the smallest possible shape to optimize the printing process, which is typically 85% smaller.
After printing, a 3D printed garment is freshly baked. The technicians process the garment like an archaeologist. The plastic parts are cleaned and dyed, which finally creates the dress made of small interlocking plastic bricks.
