French researchers have developed an extremely stable and durable polymer, but this material, unlike other plastics with these properties, can be heated and reshaped.

Synthetic polymers can be roughly divided into two categories: thermoplastic plastics, which can be repeatedly melted and molded. Thermosetting plastics, which are processed in the liquid state and then crosslinked by chemical or optical action. These materials, including the well-known phenolics, have to be polymerized in the desired object-shaped mold because once the reaction is complete, the polymer cannot be remodeled. Thermosetting plastics have excellent stability, especially at high temperatures; they have many important uses in the aviation industry.

This new polymer exhibits thermoset-like stability but can be repeatedly processed at high temperatures. It can even be ground and recycled into new shapes while retaining the original material's mechanical properties. Unlike multipolymer gels, which become very soft when heated, their polymers remain solid when heated. However, when warmed, some of its bonds will break, so the polymer can be shaped and shaped and will re-bond as the material cools. This new material may find application in aircraft and automotive industries, construction, electronics, and even in the production of sports equipment.
