Kennametal launched a new Y-TECH drill for drilling in IMTS2008 (Chicago International Manufacturing Technology Show, Chicago, September 8-13).

The product's unique geometry allows high-quality holes to be drilled in duplex stainless steels, titanium alloys, Inconel, and other difficult-to-machine metal materials. The usual products are symmetrical, double-edged, and drilled on both sides, often producing a certain degree of oscillation when entering the workpiece. The Y-TECH drill is a three-blade belt with an asymmetrical groove design. This design has a strong centering force, which is opposite to the reaction force of the guide belt, ensuring the diameter during cutting. All of its power is supported by the traditional two blades, which not only avoids oscillating, but also improves the quality of the drill and, more importantly, minimizes tool wear and built-up edge.
Chris Merlin, MSSG Product Manager for Kennametal Solid Carbide Drills, said: "We have learned from our customers' reports that they have used Y-TECH to drill high quality holes, which eliminates other finishing steps (reaming). ."
