[Editor's note] This article is the deputy professor of the School of Journalism and Communication, Peking University, and Dr. Hu Yong, a political science doctor, in the discussion on the topic of "Global High-end Manufacturing Development and Opportunities" at the JIC Investment Forum on October 25, 2014. In his speech, Hu Yong emphasized that the manufacturing industry and the Internet must be integrated with each other. You have me and I have you. Manufacturing is making products more valuable by entering more data and information into products. This article is based on the recording, without my confirmation.

How to redefine traditional manufacturing

Recently, the hardware renaissance or the hardware revolution, or many synonyms, such as the new industrial revolution, and even the Internet of Things, have involved how to redefine hardware, so it also involves how to define manufacturing. Of course, these hardware cores we see now, such as independent design, development by startups, consumer-oriented smartphones, health trackers, wearables, etc., as well as drones, industrial robots, 3D Printers and so on, the hardware products we are familiar with are actually quite different from the hardware we have traditionally said. But we found that the manufacturers of these hardware are not traditional hardware manufacturers, but are made by so-called Internet-thinking companies. So this brings us a question, that is, what is the big difference between the hardware made by Internet thinking companies and the hardware of traditional manufacturing? In the past, we talked more about manufacturing. Now we are talking about creation. The core issue is user-led issues. The user resources of traditional manufacturing are dead, and today's Internet user resources have a diffusion effect, which is why the new hardware revolution will be replaced by the maker media, so that the products manufactured will replace the products without vital signs. So the products of the new era should be manufactured, so we call the new hardware revolution the maker movement.

The manufacturing industry is on the Internet, I want you to have me, I have you.

I think this is basically stuck in the past, for example, if you are an OEM, ODM or brand, release the low-end, keep the brand service network, and then use the difference in processing costs in the world to transfer the manufacturing process, but It is an old topic. Even if it is to talk about the upgrading of the manufacturing industry, such as the change of birds in Guangdong, it is nothing new. What we want to see is not simply the issue of upgrading, but the problem of subversion. In 1996, I translated "Social Survival," and the author vividly proposed a bunch of concepts called atoms and bits. The basic structural factors of our society have changed from atoms to bits. If we consider this concept, you will see that the speed of change of bits and the speed of change of atoms are very different, and the rate of change of bits is geometric. The original manufacturing innovation is far from the success you expected. The speed of the bit is very fast, but the speed of the atom is very slow, similar to the turtle in the tortoise and the hare. You have to think about whether you can have more bits in the atom and have more atoms in the bit. In the words of the American novelist Fes Gerard, you have to think that hardware and software, atoms and bits cannot be treated differently than before. What we want to see is the manufacturing industry in the Internet age. We must use software thinking to transform hardware, and move typical software thinking into manufacturing. We must perform rapid iterations like software. Also be aware that a lot of hardware will be replaced by software, and now you may use the APP instead of the hardware. This will try to raise the speed of the atom, such as the speed of the turtle, to the speed of the rabbit, that is to say, the softness is hard, the hard and soft, and finally the changes brought about by the Internet. This is not only limited to the Internet industry, but will gradually penetrate into the industries that truly constitute industrial technology. Therefore, I feel that we cannot simply discuss the high-end and low-end issues of many value chains.

How does manufacturing give more value to products?

Back to the atom just mentioned is the new bit, the bit is the new atom, in fact, we have a living example now. Almost everyone on the Internet knows the law of long tail. Anderson is no longer playing the Internet. He started to make hardware and do drones. He uses new thinking to make hardware. He first built a community. The community is a drone of all madmen. They discuss the possibilities of various drones here, carry out drone design and product research, and use the wisdom of the community to do research and development. What he needs to do is to build a factory in California, a factory in Mexico, and a supply chain that can be global. For example, you can use Taobao and Alibaba to buy engines in Shenzhen. As long as the price is good enough, you can do drones. This is a very typical process of replacing bits and atoms with each other.

The hottest thing in the Internet industry is big data, and the problem facing the manufacturing industry is that every manufacturing company needs an information strategy. The informationization strategy mentioned here is not the previous use of computer and network technology to transform enterprises, but specifically refers to how to add more data and information to existing products, so that this product is more valuable to your customers. . Almost all products and services can enhance their value through this informationization process. For example, GPS in a car is a typical information product that can be used to better optimize operations and enhance the consumer experience. All hardware companies are faced with how to add more data and information to the product, we can call it a big product, I think the manufacturing industry is facing a transition from big data to big products, in other words, how to make your product Not only has product value, but also has network value.

Shear Beam Load Cells

Shear Beam Load Cells are widely used where operators need to measure compressive forces. The core component of a shear beam load cell is a spring element. This element is a piece of metal that is elastically deformed under load and recovers the moment the load is removed.

The (single-ended) shear beam is designed for low profile scale and process applications. The shear beam capacities are from 100kg to 50t. One end of the shear beam contains the mounting holes while the opposite end is where the cell is loaded. The load cell should be mounted on a flat smooth surface with high-strength hardened bolts. The larger shear beam cells have more than two mounting holes to accommodate extra bolts to keep the hardware from stretching under stress load.

Shear beams are available of nickel-plated alloy steel or stainless steel for use in harsh environments.
